Land Acknowledgement
We acknowledge that we are situated on the traditional land of the Anishnaabeg People. We acknowledge the enduring presence of First Nation, Métis and Inuit people on this land and are committed to moving forward in the spirit of reconciliation and respect. We are grateful to Knowledge Keeper, Jeff Monague, former Chief and Councillor of the Beausoleil First Nation, Canadian Veteran, author, teacher, musician and local historian, Manager of Springwater Park, Anishinabek Research Coordinator and Pipe Carrier, who's kindness has help us make a good step forward with this Land Acknowledgement, which is used daily by the students of Simcoe County and was developed in collaboration with Indigenous Elders, Knowledge Keepers.
ABOUT 2023
'be contemporary gallery' was a unique hybrid: a commercial space run with a public gallery's sensibilities. Due to the Covid restrictions along side personal issues, in January 2022 I closed the brick and mortar location. Currently considered an online gallery, our focus is to promote the artists represented and to encourage alternative perspectives, experimentation, and diversity in both programming and exhibiting, offering a varied range in visual arts to satisfy collectors passions, and art enthusiasts' cravings: from paintings to sculpture, functional art, installation, printmaking, lens-based, and drawings. The gallery's new exhibition program hopes to engage and informs the community, broadens understanding and bring awareness while giving regional artists opportunities to showcase their art.
'be contemporary gallery' opened in 2020 and was location at 7869 Yonge Street, Innisfil Ontario Canada, L9s 1K8 - currently looking for a new location.
History, Prior to 2023:
Life is definitely interesting, in looking for larger studio space, I came across a great location, with an additional bonus space that could be utilized as a gallery. A small space, in a beautiful old victorian in the Town of Innisfil (Stroud) so reminiscent of the old MacLaren Art Centre [Barrie] when it was located on Maple Hill. I was compelled to rent in hopes this space could be, even in a small way, a benefit to local and regional artists, engaging the community, bringing experiences and understanding towards an inclusive arts culture community --
After a wonderful opening March 1, 14 days later on March 14th, 2020 with the world we closed due to the pandemic ... so happy to reopen August 13, 2020 and now despite the RED Zone the year is winding down, I am happy to say .... SEE YOU IN 2021.
Well the new year has arrived and I persevered, not for the faint of heart for sure, but the gallery withstood numerous lockdowns and we are now open again, and hoping it lasts longer. Vaccines are now available, delivery slow, but the world does seem more positive.
Vision
be contemporary gallery programs visual arts exhibitions that engage the community and stimulate awareness of Canadian local and regional artists
Mission
be contemporary gallery programmes visual arts exhibition spaces where artists and curators can express their creative ideas and output, and we promote visual arts discourse locally, regionally and internationally.
