Sue A Miller
Sue studied Fine Art at Georgian College in Barrie, Ontario graduating in 1986. For the past 30 years she has continuously worked from her studio in Creemore, Ontario. Sue’s work is informed by a collective imprint of landscape that has influenced her life since early childhood. Growing up in rural Ontario, Sue spent most of her time exploring the natural environment with a keen sensitivity to its often overlooked significance and wonder.
Her paintings are a personal voyage into an internal perception of landscape that expresses a primal and psycho-geographical connection to land and water, along with a sense of calm, comfortable solitude. Inspired by shorelines around Georgian Bay and the coastlines of Newfoundland, her journey is motivated by the interplay of environment and metaphors of the human condition. Most recently, her focus has shifted to more northern climes and the cryospheric changes rapidly occurring. This shift has also impacted her creative explorations toward immersive installation, incorporating sound and sculpture.
Along with her solo exhibitions, Sue has participated in several national and international group exhibitions and her work is held in private collections across North America, Europe and Japan. Sue has an extensive teaching career which has included her location work with First Nations in Newfoundland/Labrador and Nova Scotia, programming workshops for Autism Ontario, facilitating art retreats i n Newfoundland and is part time summer faculty at Sir Sanford Fleming College, Halliburton Campus.
